Updates for Our Final Few Weeks at Harmony Yoga

We are heading into the last few weeks of Harmony Yoga. This is mind-boggling to me!  If you missed the news earlier, the short story is that my husband is retiring at the end of this school year, and we are moving to Longmont, Colorado later this summer.  While we are both sad to be leaving our communities in Ann Arbor (including all of you who’ve been such an amazing part of Harmony Yoga) we are also excited at the prospect of doing something completely new with our lives. Please read our latest Harmony Yoga Newsletter for updates,...

Big News for the Future of Harmony Yoga

This is a bittersweet announcement for me. My husband is retiring at the end of this school year, and we have decided to move to Colorado, possibly as early as mid-July, and probably no later than the end of August. What does this mean for the studio? “Harmony Yoga” will not continue, but there is the possibility that someone will be able to take over the lease.  If this happens, a new business will be created, and the other teachers you are familiar with (Iyengar Yoga teachers Pam, Susan, Marly, and the Feldenkrais teacher, Dale...

Overview of Class Registration Options and Policies

Posted by on Jun 3, 2018 in Classes, Policies | Comments Off on Overview of Class Registration Options and Policies

At Harmony Yoga of Ann Arbor we offer a variety of options for people to take classes: Registering and paying for a multiple-week session Purchasing a class card Paying per class each time you attend Automatic monthly payment plan Sometimes these  choices can be confusing, so I will go over the policies and the reasoning behind each option. 1.Registering and paying for a multiple-week session This is our basic model.  You register for a specific class (or two) that meets at the same time each week for a certain number of weeks.  It is...

Second Annual International Day of Yoga – June 2, 2016

June 21 marks the second annual International Day of Yoga as designated by the United Nations. I encourage you to celebrate by setting aside time to practice on that day, and also committing to your own continuing regular home practice. Your practice can be short if you don’t already have a regular yoga practice.   I’d suggest the following simple sequence to begin, and add more if you are so inclined: Cross-legged seated pose (Sukhasana) Stretch arms (Baddhanguliasana) Your choice of seated twists Downward Facing Dog Pose (Adho...

We are delighted that Karen Allgire will return this spring, April 29, 30, and May 1, to teach workshop classes at Harmony Yoga.  Last year her classes were enjoyed by all who took them. Karen is an Intermediate Junior III Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher (CIYT) from Cleveland Heights, Ohio.   I have known her for almost 20 years, and have been impressed with her dedication to her teaching, and her outgoing, pleasant and helpful manner in classes. Karen specializes in blending anatomy, imagery and philosophy to nurture transformation in...

Join Us for Our Day After Thanksgiving Class

Our special Day After Thanksgiving Class has become a fun tradition at Harmony Yoga of Ann Arbor! Instead of subjecting ourselves to the frenzied crowds of shoppers on Black Friday, we join together to do something healthy for ourselves with other like-minded people.  We’ll do it again this year, November 27 2015. See Day After Thanksgiving Class for registration and payment information.   This two-hour class will include a sequence of active standing and seated twists, along with other compatible poses during the first hour, followed...

When Are Our Next Free Classes?

Posted by on Sep 27, 2015 in Classes | Comments Off on When Are Our Next Free Classes?

In my previous post, I explained why I only occasionally offer the first class free for new students.  In short, it’s because classes can be quite variable from week to week, and just one class isn’t necessarily a good indication of what is “typical” over the course of a few weeks or months. The most reliable time to try a representative class is during the first week of a session, and that’s when it makes sense for me to offer a free class for new students. Our next session begins during the week of October 26...

Why I No Longer Offer First Class Free

Why I No Longer Offer First Class Free

Some studios have the policy of offering the first class for free.   That hasn’t worked out well for me for various reasons, although I do offer discounted classes to new students (see our New Student Specials for more information.) Why don’t I offer the first class for free anymore? Partly it’s because I have found that people who expect the first class for free don’t value what they are getting.  Why would they?  A free class has no value or importance to most people beyond the one-time “work-out” or...

Suggested Sequence – International Yoga Day

Suggested Sequence – International Yoga Day

Here is the special practice sequence suggested by Geeta Iyengar for International Yoga Day on June 21.  At Harmony Yoga we will be working from this sequence during the week of June 15 – 20 (depending on the needs of each class, and the time available), but you can also use it as a guideline for your own practice.  You might decide to split up the sequence and do a different segment each day (along with preparatory poses, as you feel are useful).   You might add other poses, or skip some from the list.     Use props or modify as...
